Two-Factor Authentication
Add an extra layer of security to your Oplinque account with 2FA
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring a second form of verification when signing in.
Why Enable 2FA?
- Enhanced Security: Even if someone obtains your password, they can't access your account without the second factor
- Protection Against Phishing: 2FA codes are time-sensitive and unique to your device
- Peace of Mind: Know your job search data is protected
Setting Up 2FA
Step 1: Navigate to Security Settings
Go to Account Settings → Security → Password & 2FA or navigate directly to your password settings page.
Step 2: Enable Two-Factor Authentication
Click the "Enable 2FA" button in the Two-Factor Authentication section.
Step 3: Enter Your Password
For security, you'll need to confirm your current password before enabling 2FA.
Step 4: Scan the QR Code
Open your preferred authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, etc.) and scan the QR code displayed on screen.
Step 5: Verify Setup
Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app to verify the setup is working correctly.
Step 6: Save Your Backup Codes
You'll receive 10 one-time backup codes. Save these in a secure location - you can use them to access your account if you lose your authenticator device.
[!IMPORTANT] Backup codes are one-time use only. Once used, that code is invalidated. Store them securely (password manager, printed copy in a safe, etc.).
Signing In with 2FA
When 2FA is enabled, after entering your password you'll be prompted for additional verification:
Option 1: Authenticator App (Recommended)
Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app. Codes refresh every 30 seconds.
Option 2: Email Code
Request a one-time code sent to your registered email address.
Option 3: Backup Code
Use one of your saved backup codes if you don't have access to your authenticator app.
Trust This Device
Check "Trust this device for 30 days" to skip 2FA on trusted devices. Only use this on personal devices you control.
Managing 2FA
Regenerate Backup Codes
If you've used most of your backup codes or suspect they may be compromised:
- Go to Account Settings → Security → Password & 2FA
- Click "Regenerate Codes"
- Enter your password to confirm
- Save the new codes (old codes are invalidated)
Disable 2FA
If you need to disable 2FA:
- Go to Account Settings → Security → Password & 2FA
- Click "Disable" on the 2FA section
- Enter your password to confirm
[!WARNING] Disabling 2FA reduces your account security. Only disable if absolutely necessary.
